We check every counterparty before we trade, and we ask you to check us too. Commodity fraud relies on fake emails and fake offers; a few simple checks stop it.

Fraud warning

Two rules we never break

  1. 01

    We never change bank details by email.

    If you receive an email, letter or message asking you to pay Sofico Le Baron into a new or different account, treat it as fraud. Call us on a number you already know before paying anything.

  2. 02

    Offers come only from @soficolebaron.com.

    Genuine offers, contracts and invoices are sent only from an @soficolebaron.com email address. Not from Gmail, Hotmail or Outlook accounts, and not from look-alike domains.

Check before you act

  1. Step 1

    Read the full sender address

    Look at the complete address, not just the display name. Look-alike domains change one letter or add a hyphen, such as sofico-lebaron.com or soficolebaron.co.

  2. Step 2

    Watch for pressure and fees

    Be wary of unsolicited offers far below market price, requests for upfront fees to release documents, or pressure to sign within hours.

  3. Step 3

    Contact us independently

    Use the contact details on this website, not those in the message. We will confirm in writing whether the offer is ours.

02Report a fake offer

Tell us about it

If you have received an offer, invoice or request that uses our name and you are not sure it is genuine, send it to us. Please include:
  • The original email, forwarded as an attachment so the technical headers are kept
  • Any documents, bank details or phone numbers you were given
  • The date you received it and how the sender first contacted you

03Counterparty checks

KYC and sanctions screening

Before we sign a contract we verify who we are dealing with. Every buyer and supplier is checked for:
  • Company registration, ownership and authorised signatories
  • Ultimate beneficial owners
  • Sanctions and restricted-party lists
  • The origin and destination of the goods

Documents we may ask for

  • Certificate of incorporation or commercial registration
  • Company profile and ownership structure
  • Identification of authorised signatories
  • Bank reference letter
