Grades explained

  • 01

    Coffee

Arabica, milder and grown at altitude, and Robusta, stronger and used in blends and instant coffee. Green beans are graded by screen size and defects.

  • 02

    Cocoa

Fermented and dried beans, graded by bean count and by the share of mouldy and slaty beans. West Africa ships a main crop and a smaller mid crop.

  • 03

    Sugar

Refined white sugar (ICUMSA 45) for food and drinks, and raw cane sugar (VHP) for refineries.

  • 04

    Cotton

Raw cotton lint in pressed bales, classed by colour and leaf grade, staple length, micronaire and strength.

  • 05

    A word of caution

Offers of “ICUMSA 45” sugar at prices below the market are a well-known fraud. Check any offer with us first.
